Student Programming Unites Skills with Futures in HPC

Heading to SC26? Mark your calendar for two full days of hands-on learning and career development, newly detailed on the Student Programming webpage. The lineup runs November 15–16, 2026 in Chicago and is built for students at any stage. You don’t need a finished career plan to get value out of it.

Education and Inspiration

Day One is a full-day HPC crash course. Students get hands-on practice with the tools, workflows, and computing environments used in real research and industry settings with AI agents integrated directly into the course. Whether you are encountering HPC for the first time or looking to strengthen your foundation, the session is designed to build confidence with technical computing resources.

Day Two, “Beyond the Terminal,” shifts the focus to career readiness. Morning sessions cover the range of paths available across HPC and AI; how to decide whether graduate school fits your goals, how to build a strong resume and portfolio, as well as how to navigate job searches, interviews, and offer negotiations. The morning also includes a career panel with professionals spanning academia, national laboratories, and industry, discussing what HPC careers look like in each of those settings.

The centerpiece of the day comes in the afternoon: short, one-on-one career-coaching sessions with HPC and AI professionals that students sign up for in advance. These focused conversations offer personalized guidance on resumes, grad school decisions, job searches, and technical growth.

For undergraduates just discovering HPC or graduate students refining their career direction, Student Programming is designed to meet you where you are.
