Chicago’s Ultimate Science Fair: 172 Posters Take the Floor at SC26

doctoral showcase

Posters are where SC conversations start: two hours of one-on-one discussion with the people most likely to use, challenge, or extend your work. For students, the poster floor is often where they meet a future collaborator, advisor, or employer.

Below you’ll find the highlights, the schedule, how awards are decided, tips for first-timers, and the full list of accepted posters.

Posters Reception Tips

First time at the Posters Reception? Start here! The Posters Reception is Tuesday, 5:15–7:00 pm, and it is the busiest 105 minutes of the posters week at SC. Posters stay up until Thursday at 5 pm, so you can come back during coffee breaks. Wednesday’s finalist presentations are the best way to see the top posters in depth.

Before You Arrive

  • Bring Your Badge and Download the SC26 Mobile App: The reception requires a Technical Program badge. Badges are not mailed; pick yours up at registration. Mobile app point-to-point navigation will get you to West Building, Level 3.
  • Watch the Poster Blitz Videos: New this year, many Research Poster authors recorded a one-minute Poster Blitz video. Browse them by visiting the Poster Gallery in the Schedule and sort by Poster Blitz. You’ll find the videos at the top of individual poster pages. Then plan which posters to visit first.

At the Reception

  • Arrive at 5:15 pm for the Kick-Off: The Posters Chair opens the reception with a short welcome in front of the main posters sign. It’s the best moment to get oriented.
  • Presenters Stay with Their Poster for the full reception. Judges circulate throughout and pick the Best Poster finalists from what they see tonight.
  • Try the e-Posters: Five screens, three touchscreens and two static displays, each with a mini-PC, keyboard, mouse, or media player, let you explore live demos yourself.
  • Ask Questions: “What surprised you?” and “What would you do next?” start better conversations than “Can you walk me through this?” Leave a business card if you want to follow up.
  • Drink Tickets and Appetizers: Poster presenters hand out drink tickets at the reception to visitors who stop by to discuss their work, so engaging with posters is how you earn yours. Appetizers are passed and served at stations. Attendees with allergies should ask catering staff on site.

How Are Awards Decided?

The Best Research Poster Award and ACM SRC winners are decided in two rounds. Judges pick 15 finalists at Tuesday’s reception, then choose seven winners after Wednesday’s finalist talks. ACM SRC winners receive $500, $300, and $200 for first through third place, and first-place winners advance to the ACM SRC Grand Finals. All awardees are announced at the SC26 Awards Ceremony on Thursday, November 19.

Round 1: Tuesday Reception

Judges visit posters during the reception, then deliberate. They’ll select five finalists each for Research Posters and Interactive Research e-Posters combined, ACM SRC Undergraduate, and ACM SRC Graduate.

Round 2: Wednesday Presentations

Finalists give short talks in W185d (ACM SRC finalists: 10 minutes plus 5 minutes of Q&A). Judges deliberate that evening and select one Best Research Poster and six ACM SRC winners—first, second, and third place for undergraduates and for graduates.
